Park High

Curriculum

Park High School is a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College, a theme which runs through the curriculum to help prepare students to be successful in a rapidly changing technological world.

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) system helps students grow, as many go on to study A levels in science and maths, paving the way for future university courses and careers.

We also have an increasing number of students successfully applying for technical apprenticeships as they gain further qualifications during employment.
As part of our Key Stage 4 curriculum, Park High offers 14 different STEM courses tailored to meet the needs of students, who also benefit from an enrichment programme linking their studies with outside contacts.

This includes mentoring by STEM ambassadors (employees of technology-based companies), projects linked to current research and work in universities and business and visits to technology-based companies.

But it’s not all about maths and science, with an exciting and varied curriculum allowing students of all abilities to fulfil their potential in their chosen field.
Many  of our students go on to study foreign languages and humanities subjects as part of a new English Baccalaureate academic pathway.

In Key Stage 3 (years 7 and 8), all students are taught English, French, Geography, History, Information Technology, Maths, Music, PE, Religious Studies, Science, Design Technology, Drama, Art, Dance, and Personal Development - Cultural, Personal and Social Education.

In Key Stage 4, we offer a more diverse range of subjects and introduce further learning pathways, including a link with Manchester University, to help raise students’ expectations as they begin to make choices which might influence their further education and future careers.

As students begin to specialise in a programme of study that interests them most and head towards GCSE exams, we offer English, Maths, Sciences, Humanities, Modern Languages, Computing, IT and Business Studies, Creative and Performance Arts, Design Technology, Engineering and Construction, Hospitality and Catering, Social, Personal & Cultural Education, including GCSE RE and Citizenship, and Sport and Health.

We also offer a range of technical and vocational options, such as Health and Social Care, ICT and Engineering.

Students are entered for exams when they are ready with the scope for early entry, while a stimulating careers education programme is in place to help youngsters make the right choices for their futures.

And throughout their journey through our school they are prepared for education and work beyond Park High.
