Applications and entry criteria

If you are interested in the Pennine Teaching Alliance School Direct programme for training during the academic year 2019-2020, you should:

  • Check that you meet the University of Manchester requirements for your chosen subject and phase.

Primary

Applicants should:

  • Be qualified to degree level, preferably a 2:1 or above (or in their final year of University with a 2:1 or above as a predicted grade). Applicants with a 2:2 Bachelor's degree may be considered if able to demonstrate evidence of higher academic attainment (eg through non-vocational postgraduate study) or at least four years of employment or voluntary work, either before or after graduating from their first degree. All degree disciplines will be considered for Primary applications.
  • Have two A-levels at grade C or above in non-vocational subjects.
  • Have a minimum of a GCSE/O'level/iGCSE at grade C/4 or above (or international equivalent) in Maths, English and Science.

Experience of being in a school and/or working with young people is preferred and will be beneficial during the application process. Secondary

Applicants should:

  • Be qualified to degree level, at 2:2 or above (or in their final year of University with a 2:2 or above as a predicted grade).
  • For Secondary your degree should be relevant to the subject you want to teach. We also consider related A-Level qualifications where your degree is not directly related for our Maths and Physics courses.
  • Minimum grade C or 4 at GCSE (or equivalent) in English language and mathematics.
