Year 11 Easter Intervention

This term, Year 11 have experienced many milestones, including their final mock examinations, final Tracker Report, last parents' evening, last house SPA celebration assembly and their final full school assembly. When we return after Easter there will be nineteen school days until their first GCSE examination, English Literature, on the 11^th May.

It is important that they do get lots of rest over the holidays and re-charge their batteries ready for the final push. We have advised them to keep to a regular habit of daily revision to prepare for the final weeks, using their Knowledge Organiser with the recommended techniques:

Look, cover, write and check
Mind maps
Flash cards
Practice past papers (many subjects have handed these out this week or they can be accessed on the exam board websites)

Business Enterprise Fayre

Reading Ambassadors

On Friday, our Reading Ambassadors joined the Lancashire Book of the Year workshop at Accrington library where they discussed the longlist books with other participating schools. They were very excited to start reading the shortlist titles!

Workplace Wednesdays

Miss Barker took 10 Year 8 students to Colne Open Door Centre as part of ‘Workplace Wednesday’. The students were truly inspired by the incredible work the centre does to support the community. They also learned about the wide range of roles involved and the many volunteers who give their time to help others. A huge thank you to Hannah and Jess for showing us around and sharing such valuable information all about what the centre offers. Our students left feeling motivated and full of ideas on how they can support the centre, through donating food, volunteering in the future, completing work experience, or raising money. Thank you to Nick the manager at the centre for helping us organise the trip! We look forward to returning soon!

Our Year 7 students enjoyed 'Talk-eoke' with Marsden Heights on Tuesday this week. Students demonstrated our core values of ambition and respect, whilst listening to other people's views and opinions. They debated on the topics of divisions in society and how we can break stereotypes to come together with people of different backgrounds. Well done to Year 7!

This week, some of our STEM Ambassadors helped read, review and judge this year’s prestigious Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize, showing great ambition and collaboration.

This also means we’ve got 6 brilliant brand new books for the library!

‘The wild life of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals’ was judged to be our winner, with the overall national winner tbc in April.

Workplace Wednesday

For this week’s Workplace Wednesday, we visited Safran in Burnley with 14 of our antastic Year 8 students! They had a full tour of the site and asked some brilliant questions, really impressing Steve and the team who showed us around. Our students were fascinated by the wide range of opportunities available, making it a truly valuable experience. Miss Barker was incredibly proud of every student who attended and represented the school so well, lots of park points were given out this week!

A huge well done to our Sports Leaders who did an outstanding job helping to deliver an Indoor Athletics competition for local primary schools. With 11 leaders supporting an event involving 9 primary schools, their organisation, communication, and leadership skills were incredibly impressive. The leaders helped run events, such as the javelin, triple jump and vertical jump. The leaders helped guide participants and ensure the competition ran smoothly throughout the day. Their enthusiasm and professionalism created a positive and enjoyable experience for all the young athletes taking part. Opportunities like this are fantastic for developing leadership, confidence, and teamwork, and the group represented Park High brilliantly. Well done to everyone involved!

Y8/9 Girls Football

With the continued rise of girls’ football at Park High, three teams were entered into the Pendle Tournament. The competition was split into A and B leagues, and we are proud to celebrate that both our Park won their respective leagues. A total of 21 students represented the school, showcasing excellent technical ability and teamwork. For many, this was their first experience of competitive school football, making the achievement even more impressive. Across all fixtures against schools from around Pendle, there was only one defeat, with the remainder resulting in wins — a fantastic reflection of the girls’ quality, determination, and consistency throughout the tournament. Several individual performances deserve special recognition. Iona has shown significant improvement in goal, conceding just two goals across the tournament. Her reaction time and agility were instrumental in helping to win the tournament. Paige’s vision and game intelligence were a joy to watch, allowing her to read the game effectively, defend with composure, and instil confidence in her teammates. Finally, twins Evie and Indi demonstrated outstanding determination and work ethic. Their relentless pressure gave opponents very little time on the ball, and their mental strength complemented their technical ability superbly. Congratulations to all three teams and every player who represented Park High — a fantastic achievement, with many more successes to come.

Y8 Girls Football

Our Year 8 girls recently enjoyed a friendly fixture against South Craven School, who are now part of Apex Collaborative Trust, same as Park High School. It was fantastic to see both schools come together to organise this event following South Craven’s recent joining of the trust. Two 7-a-side teams took part, and all the girls showcased their sporting talent, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the games. It was a great opportunity for players from both schools to compete, enjoy the game, and build new sporting connections. A special mention goes to Lacie, who scored an impressive hat-trick, as well as Lottie, who made a brilliant return to football after recovering from a broken arm. Betsy also deserves recognition for her clever movement and determination when winning tackles throughout the match. It was a fantastic afternoon of football, and we look forward to organising many more fixtures with South Craven in the future.

Y7 PD Day

Year 7 pupils were enhancing their Spiritual and Moral development during this PD Day by learning about the Hindu Holi Festival. Pupils learnt about why Holi is important to Hindus, learnt how to print Mandala's onto T-Shirts (which they later wore for the colour run), designed their own Henna Tattoo, and of course completed the Colour Run. They had a fantastic day, and many members of staff commented on how respectful the Year 7's were on PD day!

Deans Court Chambers Visit

Last Friday, some of our year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to take part in a session with Anna, a barrister from Deans Court Chambers. Students asked thoughtful questions about pathways into law, A level options, university options, and the day-to-day life of a barrister. Our year 10 students were highly engaged and all gained lots of information from the session. A huge thank you to Anna for delivering such an informative, impactful talk. The talk allowed our students to think outside the box. Jessica also tried on the barrister’s wig and gown!

Workplace Wednesday

This week’s Year 8 Workplace Wednesday took place once again at Pendleside Hospice! Miss Barker took ten Year 8 students, who were fantastic throughout the visit. Lisa kindly showed us around, giving students the opportunity to see how the hospice runs on a day-to-day basis and to learn about the many different roles within the organisation. It was a truly inspiring experience for our students.

Our students were particularly interested to hear about the volunteering opportunities available from the age of 16 too and also the work experience opportunities which are available in year 10. A huge thank you to Lisa and the whole team for providing such a valuable morning for our students. We look forward to visiting again!

Educational Grant Award

Myerscough College Visit

This week, 14 Year 10 students visited Myerscough College. They enjoyed a tour of the campus and explored the wide range of subjects on offer, including basketball, farriery, agriculture, equine studies, golf, and animal studies, as well as so much more!

Azz was fantastic showing us around the campus. We also had the chance to catch up with one of our former students who is now living on site at Myerscough and studying arboriculture and is thoroughly enjoying his time there! It was great to see so many students engaged, asking thoughtful questions, and really thinking about their future goals. We had a great day, thankyou to Azz and the team at Myerscough college for providing our students with this amazing opportunity!

Year 7 students visited Marsden Heights this week to participate in a debate on topics around racial stereotypes, misinformation and fake news, prejudices, and how to become friends with people who look different to ourselves. It was a brilliant morning, and all students participated excellently, despite some nerves at the beginning about being in front of 200 students! They were a real credit to Park and took a lot away from the session. We look forward to hosting Marsden Heights next week!

National Reading Champions Quiz

2 teams of students took part in the National Reading Champions Quiz at Fishermore High School. Competing against 20 other teams from schools all across the North West, our students answered rounds of challenging questions about a wide variety of books. Well done all!

Workplace Wednesdays

Miss Barker took some of our Year 8 students on a workplace visit to St Peter’s Centre in Burnley as part of workplace Wednesday. It was a fantastic trip and a valuable experience for our students. Rebecca kindly showed us around the building and spoke in detail about the wide range of careers within the organisation, including apprenticeship opportunities. Our students also had the chance to meet current apprentices and hear first-hand about their experiences. Miss Barker was very proud of every student who attended this trip! Thank you to everyone at St Peter’s Centre for such an informative and inspiring visit!

Training 2000 Visit

Vicki from Training 2000 visited school for a lunchtime drop-in session, giving students from all year groups the opportunity to learn more about apprenticeship pathways. Many students spoke with Vicki to explore opportunities in areas such as dental nursing, optical, scaffolding, engineering, and more. Thank you to Vicki for taking the time to support and inspire our students!

Y8 Girls Netball

Girls from the year 8 Netball team had their first game last night against Primet. The beautiful weather made it difficult for the team during the first half with the girls trying their best to make accurate passes and goals into the direct sunlight. The first half finished 6-2 to Primet but the girls were determined to to try and pull it back in the second half. Parks second half was much more promising with some excellent defensive skills and attacking play. The score ended 8-4 to Primet. Well done to Primet who showed some great shooting and defence skills. Well done to our girls for showing resilience and team work and special mention to Elise A in WD and Heidi R in GD for being awarded players of the match by the opposing team. We look forward to seeing our year 8's develop through their competitive games over the coming weeks.

Y7 Girls Netball

Park made a fantastic start to their netball season in their first Year 7 fixture against Primet. After winning the toss, Park secured first centre pass and immediately made it count. The team got off to a strong start, with some excellent shooting from Sophie B, who showed great composure in the circle to convert early opportunities. Defensively, Park were just as impressive. Olivia H delivered an outstanding performance, applying constant pressure and making crucial interceptions to prevent Primet from settling into the game. By half time, Park had established a commanding 4–0 lead. The second half saw more exceptional teamwork, sharp passing, and determined defending. Park continued to dominate across the court, extending their lead and maintaining high energy throughout. Their hard work paid off with a well-deserved 9–1 victory. Player of the Match was awarded to Ava D for her superb performance at WD, where her relentless marking and ability to win back possession made a huge impact. A brilliant team effort and a superb start to the season — well done, Park!

We are really excited to introduce our SEND Stars for last half term. This is a new reward selected by SEND keyworkers for students who have shown ambition, resilience or who have overcome a barrier to their learning whilst at school. The first winners of this are: Louie J, Bailey P, Ebony T, Dylan A, Freddie W, Ria S, Ayanna C, Leo J, Koby R, Oliver C, Michael H and William S.
