ASDAN - Improving life for Carers

Today our year 10 ASDAN students went to Carers Link in Accrington to learn about what they do and how they help carers within their community.

Mrs Ingham and Mr Curran have been working incredibly hard to complete the 'My Community' module as part of the ASDAN Personal Development programme. We have looked at the responsibilities that carers have and the impact this has on their own lives. They planned some interview questions to ask the carers that currently use Carers Link, and explored the facilities they have to support them. Carers Link Lancashire is an independent registered charity whose aim is to support unpaid carers across the boroughs of East Lancashire. Our students learnt that it is estimated that there are around 6.5 million carers in the UK which saves the economy £132 billion each year! The students behaved in an exemplary manner and developed life skills by ordering lunch of the menu and meeting the expectations of accessing a community facility. Getting our SEND students out into the community is a key priority of our ASDAN curriculum, where we focus on preparing for adulthood and improving both social skills, and life skills. We would like to thank Carers Link for allowing us to visit and to our staff for their continued support with our SEND students.
