Year 9 Basketball success

Park victorious in Pendle final

On Tuesday night the Year 9 basketball team travelled to Marsden Heights to play in the Pendle final.  Victory over West Craven in the semi-final meant the team were confident that if they played to their strengths they could be successful in the final as well.

A good first quarter where we settled into the game saw us lead 6-0 after some good baskets from Oleks Matsaniuk before more good play in the 2nd saw us into an 11-2 lead at half-time.

A focus on creating more opportunities to score was needed in the 2nd half and some much quicker play meant that we continued to keep the lead.  Lennox and Louis Tatam continued to drive the ball up court and Max Belshaw continually cut out any chances of a quick break with a great defensive display, well-supported by Alfie Hartley.  As we entered the final quarter Freddie Ridehalgh began to find more space in attack and Charlie Ellison really came into the game as an attacking threat as we scored a number of baskets to finish as 29–4 winners and Pendle Champions.

A great set of pupils who represented the school brilliantly, well done to them all.
