Summer fruit flans
GCSE students were making fruit flans last week. Starting with a genoise sponge before decorating fruit over a custard filling and setting it in place with a jelly glaze.

Last week was a huge success at the Great Yorkshire show! Year 10 had the amazing opportunity to explore the show, getting hands-on with the interactive agricultural stalls, meeting employees in the different sectors and exploring all things agricultural. Every student who attended gained so much out of the day and every member of staff was impressed with the amazing behaviour and efforts of every year 10 student!
Throughout the year, the careers club has been busy turning £10 into £160 by hosting competitions and bake sales for students and staff. They finished the year each taking home a £10 Amazon voucher and having a pizza party from any profits left over. The twelve of them have shown true entrepreneurship and dedication to their work.
It was a pleasure to welcome your fantastic Year 10 students to our NCC campus for their taster sessions. There was great energy on the day, and it was clear they really enjoyed the experience and got stuck in with the activities. Our college tutors were impressed with their enthusiasm and engagement, and we’ve already received some really positive feedback through the QR code on the flyers they took home. Their behaviour was also excellent – a real credit to Park High.
Our year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the taster afternoon at Nelson and Colne college at the start of July. Each student selected two subjects they were interested in exploring, giving them a taste of what college life could potentially look like for them once they leave school. It was brilliant to see our year 10 students making the most out of the afternoon, getting involved and enjoying the sessions run by the college staff. Well done year 10!
Azz from Myerscough college, Preston, attended our school last week for a lunchtime drop-in session. Every student had the opportunity to speak to Azz at lunchtime. Myerscough college offers a unique range of courses which include agriculture, golf, arboriculture, basketball and much more. It was a great experience for our students as they were able to explore their future options, and it allowed them to open up their minds even more about the potential opportunities after school. It was fantastic to see so many students engaging and asking thoughtful questions. Azz was amazed by how many students wanted to find out more! We would like to thank Azz for attending and providing a positive experience for all of our students!
A huge shout out to our career ambassadors who have been working really hard, staying behind every Thursday to think about ways of promoting careers within school, thinking about competitions and raising money for their club! A couple of weeks ago, they thought of a great idea to raise money. They spoke to members of staff and took pre-orders, stayed behind on the Thursday to bake the old school cakes and delivered them to staff on the Friday! They showed fantastic teamwork skills, organisation and dedication, staying behind to ensure that the cakes were made! Every member of staff who bought a cake thoroughly enjoyed their treat, and they are looking forward to ordering again soon. Well done!
Some of our year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the ‘MEGA’ day at Nelson and Colne College. The day began with a talk by a member of the ‘National Cyber Force’. Throughout the day, they took part in numerous interactive tasks and activities which were designed to challenge their computer science skills and critical thinking! The National Cyber Force shared valuable information linking to careers within the North West relating to cybersecurity, and they informed our students about how this is growing every year. This day allowed students to start thinking about the potential opportunities which they could access in the future. A brilliant day was had by all! Well done to the year 10’s who attended!
At the end of June, all of year 10 had the fantastic opportunity to spend the morning at Burnley college for a taster experience. Students chose two sessions which they then took part in based on their interests, with options including engineering, travel and tourism, sport, moral dilemmas and many more. The taster morning gave our students an insight into life at Burnley college and the different opportunities which are available to them. This was a valuable experience for our students as they prepared to enter their final year at Park high school! Thank you to Burnley college for hosting and inspiring our students!
Recently, 15 year 9 students attended the ‘Extraordinary minds’ event at Nelson and Colne college. The day focused on diversity and making a difference. Our students took part in impactful sessions led by A-level teachers from the college. This day allowed our students to think deeply about how they can make a difference and also what needs to change to allow this. In one of the sessions, they looked at the North/South divide and explored stereotypical views which encouraged students to challenge opinions too. Nelson and Colne college staff were incredibly impressed by the maturity of our students and also their creative minds!
Recently, over lunchtime, students in years 7-10 had a brilliant opportunity to meet Jasmine from Craven college. Craven College offers a range of exciting courses such as Agriculture, Animal studies, Catering, Construction and so much more! It was another chance for our students to have meaningful and impacting conversations about their future! Thank you to Craven college for taking the time to visit our school today.
