Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. These are examples of student's work, exploring design concepts and safe working practices.
A method of joining, usually electrical components, by heating a filler metal called solder. When the solder cools, it fuses the components together. Students learn the theory and safety of soldiering before putting it into practice. They have created amazing safety and instruction posters as guides to aid them.
Year 8 structures project. Students have been making truss bridges to calculate the strength to weight ratio. They have also been learning about forces which act upon structures.
Tuesday 21st November will be the second of our Personal Development Days.
Personal Development Days are an important part of the Personal Development program, providing all students with knowledge, skills and experiences to become successful members of society. Throughout the day, students will be faced with activities to foster resilience and independence requiring them to demonstrate Ambition, Respect and Collaboration.
Year 7 -workshops relating to careers, including attending an Assembly by Training 2000.
Year 8 - SMSC awareness (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural) through the theme of ‘Festivals of Light’.
Year 9 - Duke of Edinburgh Award continues with a series of workshops relating to the skills development required to achieve the bronze award.
Year 10 -workshops relating to Healthy Relationships and Sexual Health, including a session delivered by ‘We are with you’
Year 11 - SMSC awareness (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural) through the theme of 'Tolerance’. They will attend sessions around the topics of discrimination, character development and the British Values of Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect.
Year 8 have been developing their practical skills by using a variety of tools and processes to make a wooden storage system with a hinged lid. Students finished them using wax to seal the wood. Students also produced an engraved CAD CAM lid using the laser cutter.
Year 7 have been putting the finishing touches to their mobile phone holder. Over the past 9 weeks, pupils have been learning about the design process and types of materials they could use that are either sustainable or can be reused and recycled. Workshop safety and how to use equipment from saws and sanders to CAD software design program has also been an integral part of this module.
Year 7 have been finishing their DT food rotation by putting their practical skills to the test and making some vegetable samosas.
