As Year 11 prepare for the final weeks of their GCSE examinations, it is important this half-term that they have a balance between REST and REVISION. Students should plan revision every day for the remaining exams. This half term will be different to any of their previous half terms as revision is essential. However, equally important is rest each day, breaking down revision into chunks.

Mr Allen's advice:
The first exam after half term is Maths paper 2 at 9.00am on Monday 3rd June.

Year 10 have visited the city of York this week. Exploring the history of this historic town's chocolate industry. They had the opportunity to make and taste different chocolates, pitch their own chocolate bar design and explore the historic town.
Year 10 had the opportunity to make some cookies from cricket flour. These crickets are 'reared' in the UK and milled into flour for the food industry. They contain 70% protein, so they are considered more sustainable and environmentally friendlier than other sources of protein on the market. While they will be unlikely to completely replace traditional sources of protein, they will play an important part in helping feed a growing world population that requires good sources of protein in their diet. In year 7, pupils make a toastie. In year 8, the dough is made from scratch and then turned into a pizza. In year 9 they make the sauce, dough and then create a calzone. Last week, one student in year 8 got creative and turned their pizza into pinwheels.
UCLan Preston campus hosted a class of year 8 students as part of our careers program. The theme was around game design and development. Students were shown how big the industry is in the UK (bigger than the film industry) and all the subjects linked to their GCSEs that could lead to game designing courses and jobs. They then had the opportunity to design their own Indiana Jones themed games, followed by a Q&A with the student ambassadors and a tour of all the facilities on offer at the university (including their rooftop garden).
