Miss Hooper's KS3 classes have been exploring visual poetry in art to celebrate 'National Poetry Day' this week. The theme this year was 'The Environment' and students interpreted this in different ways and communicated their ideas through black out poetry, cut up and collage poetry and writing and illustrating poetry techniques.

Year 7 students have been tasked with making a model cell for their independent work. The work is part of their unit on cells, the building blocks of life. The effort and creativity that has gone into some of these models is outstanding and they are really proud of what they have made. Their models will help their teachers to assess students' understanding of the organelles (parts) and their functions (jobs) in a cell.
Year 8 have enjoyed exploring the work of paper sculptor Kate Kato. Miss Hooper and Mrs Gibbons are impressed with their use of collage and the creative presentation of their research findings.

After the success of their leek & potato soup year 9 continue to work on their vegetable skills. This week they are producing cauliflower cheese and learning the important process of making a sauce from a roux. The method allows pupils to experience gelatinisation taking place. As the starch in the flour absorbs the milk it thickens the mixture when heated.
The year 7 DT food classes managed to produce 80 pizza toasts last week. Students showed off their organisation and communication skills working to produce a wide variety of different pizzas. Not a single one was the same, but they all tasted delicious. Allowing pupils to design and produce their own food builds on their intrinsic motivation to develop a love for food and cooking.
