After the success of their apple pies, pupils tackled a fresh egg custard to serve alongside it. This technique uses a bain-marie to safely cook the egg without scrambling the custard. It also tested their French vocabulary at the same time by introducing key vocabulary used in the catering industry. Pupils were able to translate the words using prior knowledge gained from their French lessons.

Our Year 7 Scientists have been busy looking at Separating Techniques in their Matter Topic. One of their practical challenges today was to extract pure salt from rock salt. They worked effectively in pairs to follow a method with several stages including grinding the rock salt, filtering the solution to remove insoluble impurities and finally, evaporating the water to leave their pure salt behind.
Year 7 have been busy making pizza toast this week. It has been great to see their creative skills coming to the forefront. Students experimented using different cultural breads including naans, baguettes, bagels, rolls and bloomers. They put their knife skills to the test developing their understanding of making something functional while attractive to eat.
KS4 students have been working hard creating some winter themed images using relief printing. Each image has been carved from Lino and individually printed.
